UVA Health is giving back to the community this holiday season. They are donating $37, 500 to four nonprofits in Charlottesville, Culpeper, and Northern Virginia. This is to honor their over 18, 000 employees.
The money will go to All Blessings Flow, the Culpeper Food Closet, Fauquier FISH, and Action in Community Through Service (ACTS). Each group does important work in their communities.
All Blessings Flow helps people with disabilities and serious health conditions. They give out free medical equipment and supplies. The Culpeper Food Closet provides food and personal-care items to those in need. Fauquier FISH supports families with food, school supplies, and more. ACTS helps with hunger, housing, and domestic violence issues.
This is not the first time UVA Health has done this. Last year, they gave $7, 500 to five different nonprofits. This shows their commitment to giving back.
But it has not been an easy year for UVA Health. Some professors and healthcare workers asked for the resignation of two leaders. They said the leaders created a culture of fear and retaliation. An independent review was done. One leader resigned. The other left to work elsewhere.
Still, UVA Health is focusing on the positive. They are showing appreciation for their employees. And they are helping those who need it most.
