HIV Knowledge Gap: A Closer Look at Malaysia

Sun Dec 01 2024
Did you know that knowing about HIV is crucial to stop its spread? But in Malaysia, not many people seem to have enough information about this virus. This is a big deal because this lack of knowledge might be one of the reasons why HIV is still a problem in the country. So, a study was done in 2020 to find out how many people really understand HIV and what impacts this understanding. The study used results from the National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS). It turns out, a lot of Malaysians don't know enough about HIV. This is a surprising finding since there's not much data available on this topic in Malaysia. The study also found out that certain factors, like education level and age, play a role in how much people know about HIV. Older people and those with less education tend to have less knowledge about the virus. It's important to understand these gaps so that better HIV education programs can be created.
