Holiday Fun at Oregon Public Library
Oregon, USASun Nov 23 2025
The Oregon Public Library is buzzing with holiday activities this December. Kids can meet Santa in a calm setting on December 6th. This event is perfect for families with children who have autism or special needs. The library is teaming up with Easter Seals to make this Santa visit extra welcoming. You need to email jocelync@oregonpubliclibrary. com to book your time slot.
The library is also a drop-off spot for Toys for Tots. If you have kids aged 18 months to 6 years, don't miss the Preschool Story Time on Mondays at 10 a. m. Make sure to register online or call 815-732-2724.
From November 7th to 30th, the library is collecting new mittens and gloves for a mitten tree. This is part of the Story Walk at Oregon Park West. All donations will go to local agencies to help kids and families in need.
From December 6th to 20th, library cardholders can win prizes with the December Distraction program. For every three items you check out, you get a scratch-off ticket. Who knows, you might win something cool!
There's also a StoryWalk I Spy Contest from December 2nd to 20th. Pick up an entry form, walk the Story Walk, and answer questions about the story. The person with the most correct answers wins a gift card from an Oregon business.
Adults can join the Try It Tuesday event on December 16th to make waterless snow globes. This is an adult-only class, so no kids allowed. Registration is required, and spaces are limited.
Book clubs are also happening this month. The 2WBC meets on December 10th to discuss The Underground Library. The Afternoon Book Club meets on December 17th to talk about Becoming Mrs. Lewis. Other book clubs have meetings scheduled for January.
The Maker Space at the library offers tools for hands-on creation and learning. You can reserve an hour-long appointment for a creative session. If you need more time, you can register for both time slots. You must be a library cardholder to participate.
The Knit & Crochet group meets every Monday at 1 p. m. All skill levels are welcome. If you need help with your knitting project, stop by on a Monday. Registration is requested.
The Oregon Writers Group meets the second Tuesday of every month. This group supports writers and helps with the creative process. If you need brainstorming ideas, they can help.
Don't forget to check out the Dial-A-Story feature. Call 815-732-2724, follow the prompts, and listen to a story. The current story is The Curious Why by Angela DiTerlizzi. The Story Walk at Oregon Park West features The Missing Mitten by Steven Kellogg.
