In a show of respect and solidarity, the Illinois State Police recently wrapped up a crime-fighting mission dedicated to a trooper who suffered life-altering injuries in a crash. This operation, which took place from November 17 to November 28, focused on tackling gun and drug trafficking in northern Illinois. The inspiration behind this mission was Trooper Brian Frank, who was seriously hurt in a 2021 crash while responding to an incident on Interstate 55. The crash occurred when a driver failed to follow Scott’s Law, which requires motorists to slow down or change lanes when approaching emergency vehicles. The driver responsible, Angel Casillas, was sentenced to prison in 2023 for violating this law. Trooper Frank, who was part of the Illinois State Police Highway Interdiction Team, has been unable to return to duty due to his injuries. To honor his commitment to safety, the Special Operations Group launched a detailed operation. This effort involved multiple agencies and advanced technology to combat the illegal movement of guns and drugs across state lines. The results of the operation were impressive. Authorities made 17 arrests and filed 31 felony charges. They also seized four firearms, 154 pounds of marijuana, and recovered five vehicles. One notable incident during the operation involved a routine safety inspection of a commercial vehicle, which led to the discovery of over 150 pounds of marijuana and the arrest of one individual. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts to keep Illinois roads safe and the importance of adhering to laws like Scott’s Law. It also serves as a reminder of the risks that law enforcement officers face daily and the impact of their dedication on public safety.
