Foldable phones are still a small part of the overall smartphone market, making up less than 2% in 2024. Samsung is the biggest player in this niche, followed by Huawei and then Honor. Honor is hoping to gain more ground with the Magic V5, especially as Samsung is set to launch its own new foldable next week. Experts are taking notice of Honor's latest offering. Francisco Jeronimo, a vice president at the International Data Corporation, called the Magic V5 a strong contender. He highlighted the phone's battery and other features, saying it could give Samsung a tough challenge. However, Honor still has some catching up to do when it comes to brand recognition and global reach. Neil Shah, co-founder of Counterpoint Research, pointed out that Samsung has a bigger presence worldwide and a long history of making foldable phones. Samsung's vertical integration, where the company makes its own displays and batteries, gives it an edge. If Samsung can match or beat the Magic V5's thin design in its next release, Honor might find it harder to stand out. Honor is also pushing the Magic V5's artificial intelligence features, which could be a big selling point for tech-savvy users.
