House Ethics Probe Targets Rep. Chuck Edwards
Washington DC, USASat May 16 2026
The House Ethics Committee has opened a review into Representative Chuck Edwards, who faces claims of creating a hostile workplace and sexually harassing colleagues. The committee’s brief statement says it is “examining allegations that Representative Chuck Edwards may have created or fostered a hostile work environment and engaged in sexual harassment in violation of the Code of Official Conduct or any other applicable standard of conduct. ” No evidence of wrongdoing has been publicly disclosed yet.
Edwards responded that he welcomes the investigation and intends to “completely cooperate with the committee. ” He expressed confidence that the inquiry will reveal facts rather than political bias.
Earlier this week, news outlets reported that Edwards allegedly pursued an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate and engaged in sexual harassment. The allegations came after two other House members resigned last month over similar misconduct: Democrat Eric Swalwell stepped down amid accusations of abuse, and Republican Tony Gonzales resigned after admitting an affair with a former aide who later died by suicide.
In response to growing concerns about misconduct in Congress, House Speaker Mike Johnson and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced a bipartisan partnership between the parties’ women’s caucuses. The goal is to address sexual misconduct in the workplace, with Teresa Leger Fernandez and Kat Cammack appointed as co‑chairs of their respective caucuses.
