Time, cost, and safety all play big roles in whether someone can access healthcare. The study found that getting to a healthcare facility can be risky. For some, it's not just about the distance. It's also about the dangers they might face along the way. This includes crime, injury, and even health risks from pollution. The study also looked at how this problem connects to other issues. Things like food deserts, education deserts, and childcare deserts all play a part. They all affect a person's ability to access healthcare. The study suggests a four-part framework for integrated healthcare. This approach considers all the different factors that affect a person's health. It's not just about treating illnesses. It's also about addressing social and environmental factors. This includes housing, employment, and urban development. The goal is to create equitable outcomes for everyone.
