How Leaders Can Inspire Green Actions in Hospitals
ChinaWed Mar 19 2025
Hospitals in China are under pressure to adopt sustainable practices. This is because they use a lot of resources. Green agile leadership (GAL) is a style that mixes flexibility with a strong focus on the environment. It is designed to tackle sustainability issues. This leadership style is crucial in the healthcare sector. It helps in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The study looked at how GAL affects pro-environmental behavior (PEB). It also looked at the role of environmental passion (EP) and face consciousness (FC). EP is the strong feeling one has for the environment. FC is the concern for how one is perceived by others. Researchers used a survey to gather data from hospital employees. They then used a method called structural equation modeling (SEM) to analyze the data.
The results showed that GAL has a big positive effect on PEB. EP was found to be a partial mediator. This means it partly explains the connection between GAL and PEB. The study also found that FC plays a role. Employees with high EP and high FC showed more PEB. This is because they care about how their actions reflect on them.
The research is unique because it looks at the details of how GAL influences PEB. It shows that EP and FC are important factors. This study gives useful ideas for the healthcare industry. It suggests that hospitals can manage PEB better. They can do this by using GAL and encouraging EP and FC among their staff.
The healthcare sector is one of the biggest polluters. It produces a lot of waste and uses a lot of energy. This makes it important for hospitals to adopt sustainable practices. GAL can help hospitals become more environmentally friendly. It encourages staff to take actions that benefit the environment. This can lead to a greener and more sustainable healthcare system.
