How Leaders' Pressure Impacts Teachers' Confidence

Teachers' self-confidence is crucial. It drives their growth, enhances teaching quality, and boosts school performance. However, the pressure from leaders can significantly shake this confidence. A study examined data from the China Education Panel Survey. It revealed that excessive demands from leaders can erode teachers' self-assurance. This effect persisted even after accounting for other influencing factors. The study highlighted that female teachers and those in rural areas were more vulnerable to this pressure. The research also uncovered the reasons behind this phenomenon. Stress from excessive demands leads to lower job satisfaction and higher burnout rates among teachers. Interestingly, strong colleague relationships can buffer this impact, reducing the negative effects of leaders' pressure. This study sheds light on how leaders' actions can influence teachers' self-image. It also offers valuable insights for leaders and school administrators on improving the work environment. Perhaps reducing pressure and fostering better relationships can enhance teachers' confidence and overall school performance.
