The Ethiopian government has a big plan to tackle malnutrition over the next ten years, called the Food and Nutrition Strategy (FNS 2021-2030). Experts did some math to figure out how much money is needed to make this plan happen. They found out that it would cost around US$2. 55 billion over ten years, which is about US$250 million each year. Most of this money, about 72%, would go to nutrition-sensitive approaches, while the rest, 28%, would be for nutrition-specific interventions.
The plan also includes some changes suggested by a group called The Lancet, which would cost around US$1. 7 billion. Only half of these changes, though, were included in the costing. So, every three years, the plan's costing should be checked again to include new evidence and learn from actual spending. Another important thing to do is to set up a system to track how much is being spent on nutrition.
