A recent study delved into the HEXACO personality model and its ability to predict burnout among Catholic priests in Italy. This model considers six key personality traits. Researchers examined data from 264 priests serving in Italy. They found that three traits—emotionality, agreeableness, and openness to experience—didn't show reliable consistency in this group. On the bright side, priests scoring high in extraversion and conscientiousness felt more content in their ministry.
Conversely, lower scores in extraversion, conscientiousness, and honesty-humility led to higher emotional exhaustion. This highlights the importance of certain traits in coping with the demands of the job. The results also suggest that positive and negative feelings, like job satisfaction and burnout, operate independently.
