Hundreds of Prisoners Return Home in Massive Ukraine-Russia Exchange

Zelensky claimed they were "Russian saboteurs and collaborators" arrested by Ukrainian law enforcement. Russia, on the other hand, said they were captured in the Kursk region. The released prisoners were brought to a meeting point in several buses. Many were given Ukrainian flags and bracelets in Ukrainian colors at the border. Photos and videos showed dozens of men in military fatigues, most with shaved heads, wrapped in flags. Some of the released men were seen speaking to their loved ones over the phone, with many breaking into tears. One video showed people from nearby villages coming out with flags to greet the returnees. The exchange also highlighted the emotional impact on families. Dozens of people waited for hours in the Chernihiv region to greet the returnees. Many brought Ukrainian flags and photographs of their loved ones, hoping to see them among those being brought back. This exchange is part of a series of prisoner swaps that have been happening regularly. The Ukrainian Coordination Center for Treatment of Prisoners of War mentioned that this was the fifth swap this year and the 64th since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
