A Hungarian company has just made a bold move in the space industry. 4iG, based in Budapest, is putting $100 million into Axiom Space, a big name in the U. S. space business. This is the first time a Hungarian company has invested in a major American space firm.
4iG’s chairman, Gellért Jászai, sees this as a huge deal. He believes it will strengthen the relationship between Hungary and the U. S. in the space sector. The investment is split into two parts: $30 million by the end of 2025 and another $70 million by March 2026.
This isn’t just about money. 4iG is getting long-term access to space data, communications, and research in microgravity. These are key areas for 4iG’s goal to become a leader in space and defense tech.
For Axiom Space, this investment comes at a crucial time. They’re building Axiom Station, the first commercial space station meant to replace the International Space Station. Axiom’s chairman, Kam Ghaffarian, is happy to have 4iG on board. He thinks this partnership will boost innovation in space research and commercialization.
Hungary already has ties with Axiom Space. The company is sending Hungary’s second astronaut, Tibor Kapu, to space as part of the HUNOR program. This investment builds on earlier collaborations, like working together on orbital data centers and low Earth orbit services.
This deal also comes at a time when Hungary is hoping for better relations with the U. S. Hungarian officials have talked about a new era of cooperation, especially in trade and investment. This investment shows Hungary’s ambition to be a key player in the global space economy.
Both companies see this as a long-term partnership, not just a quick financial deal. It’s a sign that Hungary is serious about competing in the commercial space race and strengthening its ties with the U. S.
