Get ready, Anchorage! The forecast is calling for freezing rain this weekend, which means roads could get pretty slippery. A warm front is on its way, pushed by storms from the Gulf of Alaska. This will bring light rain and freezing rain, starting early Saturday morning and possibly lasting into the evening. The National Weather Service warns that areas like the Anchorage Bowl and Matanuska Valley might see light freezing rain. This could lead to a thin layer of ice on untreated surfaces and cold roads without snow cover. Temperatures in Anchorage are expected to hover around 30 to 34 degrees, so rain should stay off powerlines and trees, but could still make roads icy. Meteorologist Joshua Ribail explains that this is the start of a weather pattern that might last until the end of the month. There's even a chance it could switch to snow next week. Anchorage has been seeing less snow than usual this season, with only 28 inches so far. By this time, it's typically in the 30s.
