Icy Surprise: The Northeast Braces for Winter's Wrath
Sun Feb 09 2025
Waking up to a winter wonderland, but not the fun kind. Over 90 million people are on high alert for a fast-moving winter storm barreling down from the Midwest to the Northeast. Nineteen states are under winter alerts due to the upcoming snow and ice.
What does that mean for you? Well, if you’re in the Great Lakes area, you might have already seen some snow yesterday and today. Cities like Green Bay and Detroit have been hit with flurries. But, the Northeast is where the real action is happening. By Saturday night, heavy snowfall and icy conditions are expected to roll in, especially across New England.
Be prepared for travel troubles. Roads will likely be slick and dangerous overnight, with the heaviest snow hitting New England. Expect lingering snow showers early Sunday, but things should start to improve in the morning. By late Sunday, the skies should clear up. Wow, isn't it crazy how one storm can cause so much trouble?
But let’s talk about snowfall totals. The Northeast is expected to see a widespread area of over 6 inches of snow, with some spots getting up to a foot! New York City will likely see 2 to 5 inches, right on the edge of heavy snow to the north and lighter snow to the south. Cities like Baltimore and Philadelphia might have to deal with sleet and freezing rain on top of the snow.
This storm will be gone by Sunday. But, if you think you’ve seen the last of it, think again. Another storm is expected to hit the Mid-Atlantic by Tuesday, with heavy snow and ice forecasted for cities like Washington, D. C. , Baltimore, Maryland, and Richmond, Virginia. And if that’s not enough, there’s another storm brewing later in the week, bringing a mix of snow and rain to parts of the East.
So, buckle up! Winter is here, and it’s not messing around.
