India and US: Trade Talks on Track for 2023

India is hopeful to finalize a trade agreement with the US soon. Most of the tough talks are done. The US has already put high tariffs on Indian goods. This happened while they were still talking. The US wants India to buy less oil from Russia. They also want India to lower tariffs, especially in farming. India's trade boss, Rajesh Agrawal, spoke to business leaders. He said they are near a deal. Any small issues left can be sorted out by top leaders. He is hopeful to wrap things up this year. India's trade gap hit a record high in October. This was due to more gold imports and fewer exports to the US. But Agrawal says it is not a big worry. The US and India have been talking for a while. The US President Trump said talks with India's PM Modi are going well. Both sides want to boost trade. But they have different ideas on how to do it. India wants a fair deal. They want the US to lower tariffs too. The US wants India to change its trade policies. It is a balancing act for both countries.
