Influencer’s bond cut after online threats to ex-NBA player

A far-right internet personality, already facing legal trouble from the January 6 Capitol riot, now stands accused of publicly vowing to harm a former basketball star locked up for murder. The man, 31, was arrested in Texas last week after a video surfaced showing him declaring on a live stream that he would “wait outside the courthouse” and shoot Karmelo Anthony in the head. Police say the clip captures a back-and-forth where someone asks, “So, you going to kill Karmelo Anthony? ” and the influencer replies, “Yes. Yes, I will. ”
The judge reduced his bond from one million dollars to a quarter-million after hearing arguments Friday. The defense claimed the original amount was too high for someone who only has fifteen thousand dollars in the bank, while prosecutors pointed to a fundraising page that has already pulled in nearly fifty thousand. A second attempt to bring in the man’s girlfriend as a witness ended when courthouse security said she had smuggled pepper spray past security.
Courtroom debate now centers on whether the online rant counts as free speech or a genuine threat. The influencer’s lawyer called the remarks “just talk” and argued that many people facing worse charges end up with lower bonds. Prosecutors countered that the man has a history of arrests and a habit of jumping between addresses, using outrageous content to attract donations. They believe his words were meant to derail the ongoing murder trial of a basketball player serving thirty-five years for killing a seventeen-year-old during a school event.
The former player was convicted in April 2025 after a fight at a track meet ended in a fatal stabbing. The case drew national attention because of racial tensions and a wave of threats against everyone involved.
