In the third quarter of 2024, the iPhone 16 gave Apple a boost in China's smartphone market, helping it secure a spot among the top five vendors. Although Apple's market share dipped slightly to 15. 6%, the new iPhone still made waves. Huawei, on the other hand, is staging a strong comeback. Despite being in third place with a 15. 3% market share, Huawei saw a 42% year-on-year growth in smartphone shipments. This is quite an achievement, considering the company had been struggling due to U. S. sanctions. Huawei's revival is largely thanks to its advanced Mate 60 and innovative Mate XT trifold phone.
Domestic rivals like Vivo, Xiaomi, and Honor are also upping their game, focusing on AI features. Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, recently visited China, possibly to strengthen partnerships for Apple's upcoming AI feature. This visit could indicate Apple's interest in expanding its AI capabilities with local support.
