Iran believes the upcoming meeting with the United States can lead to a positive result, according to President Masoud Pezeshkian. A delegation headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi is heading to Geneva for discussions about Tehran’s nuclear program.
The U. S. delegation will include envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the president’s son‑in‑law. Both sides have resumed talks after months of tension, partly because the U. S. is strengthening its military presence in the Middle East and has warned Iran that it may respond to any attack.
Iran has said it would consider striking U. S. bases if the country were attacked, which raises fears that the region could become more dangerous. The U. S. has set a deadline of 10 to 15 days for Iran to reach an agreement, according to statements made on February 19.
Pezeshkian told state media that the talks have a good outlook and that Iranian officials are trying to avoid both war and peace. He said the Supreme Leader has guided the process toward a peaceful solution.
Foreign Minister Araqchi added that a deal is possible, but only if diplomacy takes priority over other pressures.
Both the U. S. and Israel worry that Iran might use its nuclear program to build a weapon capable of threatening Israeli security. Iran insists its enrichment activities are for peaceful purposes, even though the level of uranium purity is close to what would be needed for a bomb.
The upcoming meeting in Geneva could shape the future of regional stability and decide whether Iran’s nuclear ambitions will remain a diplomatic issue or turn into a larger conflict.
