Ireland and parts of the U. K. are having a tough time with Storm Éowyn causing record-breaking winds. In Ireland, wind gusts hit 114 mph in County Galway. ESB Networks reported that over 715, 000 homes, businesses, and farms were without power. Scottish Power also reported around 15, 000 customers affected in Scotland. Dublin Airport had to cancel more than 230 flights, and all public transport was halted in Ireland. Officials advised people to stay indoors. The rest of the U. K. wasn't spared either. Gusts over 90 mph were recorded in Northern Ireland and northern Wales. The Met Office warned about potential 100 mph gusts in exposed locations. Red warnings were in place for parts of Northern Ireland, Scotland, and the far north of England. The storm's origins trace back to a U. S. Gulf Coast winter storm, which intensified into a bomb cyclone over the North Atlantic.
