Last Friday, the Israeli military pulled off a daring amphibious raid. They snatched a high-ranking Hezbollah operative from a beach in Batroun, a small town in northern Lebanon. The elite Shayetet 13 unit, often compared to the U. S. Navy SEALs, landed on the coast and whisked the operative back to Israel. The operative is now in the hands of Unit 504, an IDF intelligence unit, for questioning.
This isn't the first time Shayetet 13 has made headlines. Based at the Atlit naval base on Israel's Mediterranean coast, they're known for strategic sabotage and damaging enemy infrastructure during wartime. Just a month ago, Hezbollah claimed to have targeted the same naval base.
Lebanon's National News Agency reported eyewitnesses seeing the mysterious force landing on the beach at dawn. They moved inland, grabbed a local named Imad Amhaz, and headed back to the sea. The Lebanese government confirmed an incident but didn't provide details. Hezbollah called it "Zionist aggression. "
Israel's military has vowed to protect its citizens, saying they'll act wherever necessary. This raid adds a new layer to the ongoing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.
