Italy's Groenlandia Unveils Three Shows on Disney+, Sky Italia, and Netflix

Rome, ItalyFri Oct 18 2024
This October, Italy's Groenlandia, a company owned by Banijay, is launching a trio of exciting shows. The first is a crime drama called "This Is Not Hollywood," based on a true story from 2010. It's about a 15-year-old girl named Sarah Scazzi whose body was found in a well after being strangled in a small Italian town. The media frenzy that followed lasted 42 days. The show premieres on Disney+ in Italy and some other countries, as well as on Hulu in the U. S. Groenlandia's chief, Matteo Rovere, says the show's title comes from a message written on a town wall during the media storm. He believes their current lineup is special because it tells stories from Italy's past with a fresh, modern perspective. This is thanks to their young writing teams and directors, all under 50. Another show is "Accidentally Famous," which launched on Sky Italia on October 11. It tells the story of how the Italian pop band 883 was formed in the 1980s. This eight-episode series, directed by Sydney Sibilia, is about two high school friends who become one of Italy's biggest bands in the 90s. Rovere hopes this story of underdogs chasing their dreams will resonate globally. Lastly, Season 2 of "The Law According to Lidia Poët" drops on Netflix on October 30. This period show, directed by Rovere, is about Italy's first female lawyer, played by Matilda De Angelis. It was quickly renewed after its successful debut last year. In the pipeline is an Italian adaptation of the Spanish comedy "Machos Alfa," called "Maschi Veri. " It's about four middle-aged friends dealing with midlife crises. On the film side, there's "Diva Futura," a true story about a Rome porn outfit from the 1980s. It premieres in Italian theaters in February and is being sold internationally. Rovere says their collaboration with Banijay has been crucial in developing stories from Italy's past that have international appeal.
