Jackson vs. Allen: Battle for AFC Championship Spot
Baltimore, USAMon Jan 13 2025
Call it a rematch or a showdown, but the upcoming game between Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen is more than just a friendly competition. These two quarterbacks will be vying for a spot in the AFC championship game, which is a much bigger deal than any MVP award. The Baltimore Ravens, led by Jackson, will be visiting the Buffalo Bills and Allen. Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes and his Kansas City Chiefs will be hosting the Houston Texans.
The winners from these matchups will face off on January 26 for a chance to go to the Super Bowl. The Bills advanced to this round after beating the Denver Broncos 31-7, while the Ravens secured their spot with a 28-14 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Texans also moved forward after defeating the Chargers 32-12. The Chiefs have a bye week after securing the top seed.
Before the NFC games even started, the AFC divisional matchups were already set. The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Green Bay Packers 22-10 and will play the winner between the Vikings and the Rams at home. The Washington Commanders became the first road team to win in the playoffs, defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-20. They will face the Detroit Lions, who are the No. 1 seed.
Jackson and Allen are no strangers to each other. Jackson, a two-time NFL MVP, led his team to a dominant 35-10 victory over the Bills earlier this season. Allen, despite not making the first-team All-Pro, is still a formidable opponent, having thrown for 272 yards and two touchdowns against the Broncos.
This isn't the first time we've seen such a lineup in the divisional round. Last year, the Chiefs beat the Bills, and the Ravens defeated the Texans. It's a repeat of the 2011-12 season when the Texans, Patriots, Ravens, and Broncos made it to the divisional round consecutively.
