Jan 6 Investigations: FBI in Hot Water with Justice Department

Wed Feb 05 2025
- Imagine this: A top official in the Justice Department is upset. They claim the FBI's leaders are defying orders by not releasing the identity of a specific "team" working on the Capitol riots last January. The official even called this "insubordination. "But,there's a twist we might expect:ordinary FBI staff did not do something wrong. This, however, will not stop the Justice Department from dealing with possible consequences for a few bad actors - This all stems from an email sent last week. The acting deputy attorney general asked for names of current and former FBI staff involved in the January 6 investigations. Big surprise, the FBI declined to provide the information. It was so stubborn actually that it sparked two lawsuits already - But how did we even make it this far? Apparently, the Justice Department initially wanted the information to examine the work of a select group. - The FBI, however, ignoring requests to give information on a core team, refused so the Justice Department had no choice but to ask for sweeping information on all staff involved. Resentment grew from that. Bove, in his email, assured FBI employees that no one will be fired for simply doing their jobs. Geez, what a surprise. - The top officials from Justice Department hate the scandal, and instead want to bring discipline to this departmentTheir goal is to expose agents who might have exploited their power or acted for political reasons - As it turns out, the question of what "following orders" means remains a touchy subject. - The FBI has opposed the request from the Justice Department. There are even lawsuits in the works -The Justice Department, under the command of President, seeks to find out if what happened was because of the directives of law and order or orders from Big Brother. - People failed to acknowledge this, and instead tried to hide them from harm. However, the Justice Department wanted to weed out the bad apples. - We are living in a time where displaying loyalty to an order above all else could leave a bad taste on both sides. - Acting as a leader first comes with risks and privileges. So what happens if an order is controversial or unjust? -The Justice Department is fighting against a culture of cover ups and deflection. -And its a risk all agents take, no matter the weather, in the hallowed doors of the FBI
