Jewish Unity Rally: A Call for Action Amid Tragedy
Fri Sep 06 2024
Hundreds of Jews are expected to gather in Beverly Hills, California, on Thursday night for a 'Bring Them Home Now' rally.
The event will include a moment of silence and candlelight vigil for the six hostages executed by Hamas: Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Eden Yerushalmi, Carmel Gat, Almog Sarusi, Alexander Lobanov, and Ori Danino.
Organizers Jessica Lipman and Debbie Paperman hope that for this brief moment in time, Jews can set aside their political differences and unite against the common enemy of Hamas. They encourage attendees to focus on what unites them: 'Jewish joy and Jewish pain. ' Lipman will kick off the speakers list before the vigil, followed by 13 others including activists, politicians, celebrities, and a survivor of the Oct. 7 terrorist attack at the Nova Music Festival in California. They have been instructed to speak freely from their hearts.
Paperman notes that the rally falls during Elul, a time of reflection on the Jewish calendar. She encourages Jews to contemplate how they can make this year better by coming together and overcoming political divisiveness.
Beverly Hills police will have an extended presence at the rally to ensure the safety of all participants and potential protesters. Organizers are hopeful that the event will provide a cathartic experience for attendees, even even even amidst the tragedy.
