Jill Korsok’s Big Exit: A New Chapter for Orange Community Recreation

Jill Korsok is stepping down from her role as director of Orange Community Education and Recreation, or OCER, effective March 1. She says she wants to leave while the department is thriving, much like a popular show ending at its peak. Her decision comes after 33 years of work in recreation across Northeast Ohio, including a long stint at Mentor’s parks department. OCER has grown under her guidance. It earned national accreditation from the Commission for the Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies last September, a first for the district. The accreditation required tightening processes and boosting efficiency, which Jill says made the team stronger. A major highlight was a $1. 8 million renovation of the Pepper Pike Learning Center. The new entrance is larger and safer, improving access for all users. Jill feels proud of this upgrade and its impact on the community. The COVID‑19 pandemic tested OCER’s resilience in 2020 and 2021.Jill recalls the challenge but credits the team’s dedication to overcoming it. She notes that staying true to their mission helped them emerge stronger. Her retirement is also a personal choice. She wants more time for family, especially her grandchildren and her husband of 34 years. Travel is on the horizon; they plan trips later this year and she will join a golf league. Jill will stay on as a consultant for a while, helping the new director transition smoothly. The school board approved a retire‑rehire agreement in July, and her final retirement was confirmed last December. The district’s superintendent says Jill left big shoes to fill but is excited about new leadership. Interviews for the position began in February, with a recommendation expected by March. Jill’s legacy is clear: she built a department that serves the community well and set it on a path for future growth. She hopes those she served feel her positive impact and that OCER continues to thrive.
