In a surprising turn of events, some employees at QHR Technologies in Kelowna have been let go. The company, which specializes in electronic medical records, was bought by Loblaws in 2016 for a whopping $170 million through its subsidiary Shoppers Drug Mart Inc. This week, the company underwent a major restructuring that impacted less than 10% of its national staff. “We don’t take these decisions lightly,” QHR Technologies said in an email to Black Press Media. The company hopes the experience gained at QHR will be beneficial for those affected. Despite the job cuts, QHR Technologies has grown significantly over the past five years, expanding by more than 70%.
With over 160 employees listed on LinkedIn, it's unclear exactly how many Kelowna workers were affected. QHR is one of Canada’s largest providers of electronic medical record systems, serving over 20,000 physicians and connecting more than four million individuals to their doctors through features like data sharing, messaging, appointment booking, and video calls. Job losses can be tough, but they are a normal part of business growth and contraction cycles. Companies often need to adjust their workforce to meet changing demands and goals. It's important for employees to stay resilient and adaptable in such situations.
