Josh Allen to the Rams? A Risky Fantasy for All Teams
Cleveland, Los Angeles, USAWed Jun 03 2026
The NFL got wild this week when the Cleveland Browns pulled off a blockbuster move, sending star defensive player Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for future draft picks. Now, eyes are turning to the Rams' quarterback situation, where 38-year-old Matthew Stafford might hang up his cleats after next season. Some analysts think star quarterbacks like Joe Burrow or Josh Allen could push for a trade to L. A. if Stafford retires—but don’t hold your breath.
Trading for a quarterback mid-season is rare in the NFL. Usually, teams only make big moves when they’re stuck with a star player on a losing team. Burrow and Allen, however, are in much better spots. Both lead competitive teams that could face off in the AFC title game next year. Allen, in particular, has four years left on his contract, making a trade highly unlikely unless the Bills suddenly decide they don’t want him—which they almost certainly won’t.
Here’s the catch: Even if the Rams wanted Allen, they’ve already given away their 2027 first-round pick in the Garrett trade. To land him, they’d need three first-rounders—something nearly impossible before 2027. After next year’s draft, they could use a 2030 pick, but by then, Allen might be too expensive or past his prime.
The Rams already drafted Ty Simpson in 2026 as their future starter. While Allen could still be a top option, the team seems committed to Simpson. Unless Allen forces a trade—which would be tough given Buffalo’s winning culture—this scenario stays in the realm of wishful thinking.
The chances of Allen or Burrow suiting up for the Rams in 2027 are slim, but the idea isn’t entirely far-fetched. If either QB ever changes teams, L. A. would be a great destination. Until then, it’s mostly just fun to imagine.
