Josh O'Connor's first time hosting Saturday Night Live was a mix of good and not-so-good moments. He started strong with a funny monologue. He joked about not being a mouse from a movie and playfully called himself a "soft boy. " This means he likes things like gardening and scrapbooking. He also talked about not wanting to be in a live-action version of Ratatouille, a movie he loves. But then he said he would be great as the main character.
However, the rest of the show wasn't as good. Many of the sketches didn't let O'Connor shine. In one sketch, he played a dating show contestant, but an older woman stole the show. In another, he was the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz, but the jokes weren't that funny. There was also a brunch sketch where he played an awkward dad. It was funny, but the other characters got more laughs.
One of the best parts of the night was a sketch with O'Connor and Ben Marshall as sensitive strippers. They were funny and sweet, and the audience loved it. But not all the old sketches worked. One with Bowen Yang as a doctor didn't do as well this time.
The Weekend Update part had some good jokes about President Trump. Colin Jost made fun of Trump's words and even joked about him becoming president. But the best part was Jane Wickline's songs. She sang about how the child stars of Stranger Things might take over the world. It was a funny and unexpected twist.
Overall, Josh O'Connor had some great moments, but the show could have been better. The sketches didn't always let him show his talent, but when they did, he was really good.
