The U. S. Justice Department has just sent a new report to Congress, as required by the Epstein Files Transparency Act. The document lists every government official and public figure mentioned in documents about Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. The report is six pages long and comes from the Deputy Attorney General’s office.
The paper breaks down the files into nine types. These include flight logs, emails, detention papers and immunity deals. The department has hidden some details. Victim names, child‑abuse material and legal secrets were removed, following the Act’s rules. The Justice Department said it worked with victim lawyers and the victims themselves to keep private information safe.
The Trump era has been criticized for how it handled Epstein investigations. Some say the documents released were not fully open or honest. The new list contains many names in different contexts. It even lists people who died long before Epstein’s crimes, like the singer Janis Joplin. Other names include a convicted sexual abuser.
A congressman, Ro Khanna, called the list “absurd. ” He pointed out odd names that seem unrelated to Epstein. Earlier this week, Khanna and another representative, Thomas Massie, asked the Justice Department to reveal six people tied to Epstein. The department said those individuals were picked randomly for an FBI lineup years ago and had no real connection to the case.
The new report shows how much information is out there, but it also raises questions about privacy and relevance. Critics want more clarity on why certain names appear. The Justice Department remains the only source of official information about these files.
