Kamala Harris has built a reputation as a 'tough on crime' politician, having served as district attorney of San Francisco and attorney general of California. However, her support for a bail fund that freed violent criminals during the 2020 George Floyd protests raises questions about her true stance on crime.
The Minnesota Freedom Fund (MFF), which Harris endorsed on Twitter, raised $40 million and used a portion of it to bail out accused murderers, rapists, and thieves. While the MFF claimed to support protesters, the majority of the funds went to those accused of violent crimes.
Among those freed by the MFF were Darnika Floyd, accused of stabbing a man; Christopher Boswell, a convicted rapist facing multiple felony counts; George Howard, who murdered a man in a road-rage incident; and Lionel Timms, convicted of felony assault. Despite the MFF's dismal record, Harris has not deleted her endorsement, indicating that she still stands by it.
Furthermore, Harris' choice of Tim Walz as her running mate, despite his poor record on crime, suggests a lack of commitment to addressing the issue. As of now, Harris has not announced any concrete policies on crime, leaving many to question her true stance stance on the matter.
