Kamala Harris’s Campaign Spending Raises Eyebrows
USATue Nov 26 2024
Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) are scheduled to address a group of Democratic National Committee (DNC) finance directors. This comes as reports surface that their campaign is in debt by about $20 million, following a wave of expensive spending. A political donor named John Morgan recently shared his concerns on NewsNation’s "CUOMO. "
Morgan explained that donors supporting the Harris-Walz campaign were mainly focused on defeating Trump, not necessarily on electing Harris. He expressed worry about the campaign’s spending habits, saying that various groups like ad buyers and talent consultants were given free rein to spend large sums. This included $15 million for events, $4 million on private jets, and $1 million to Oprah's company, among other costly expenditures.
When asked if he believed any money might have been misused, Morgan hinted that there could have been some questionable practices. He suggested that the spending frenzy was partly driven by ego and the desire for commissions on ads. He also stated that the reported $1. 5 billion spent in four months is sufficient reason for Harris not to run again, asserting, “If you can't manage a campaign, you can't run a country. ”
Morgan underscored that Harris’s financial management issues will likely haunt her career, making donors hesitant to support her in the future. Lindy Li, a member of the DNC finance committee, noted that the internal issues and financial confusion have led some staffers to resign from their positions.
The Harris campaign, however, maintains that their financial situation is under control. Patrick Stauffer, the campaign’s chief financial officer, assured The Hill that there were no overdue debts or outstanding bills by Election Day. This reassurance came despite the earlier reports of significant debt.
Morgan had previously distanced himself from fundraising for Harris, expressing his support for Joe Biden. This revelation was shared back in July during an interview with Chris Cuomo on NewsNation.
