Keeping Moving: A Remote Exercise Test for Alzheimer’s Caregivers
Tue Mar 03 2026
Researchers ran a six‑month test that paired people with Alzheimer’s and their helpers in online exercise classes. The goal was to see if this virtual workout plan could raise the amount of moderate‑to‑vigorous activity and improve physical strength, compared with a group that received better than normal care but no special program. The study followed many pairs, checking how much each person moved and their fitness level before and after the program. Results showed that those who joined the live video sessions increased their activity more than those in the usual‑care group.
The study also measured how well participants could perform everyday movements, like standing up or lifting objects, and found that the online group did better. This suggests that remote exercise sessions can be a practical way to help people with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers stay active, potentially lowering health risks that come from inactivity. The research highlights the promise of technology to support health in a flexible, scalable format that can reach people who might otherwise struggle with regular gym visits or travel.
