Kenny Pickett's New Home in the AFC North
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Cleveland, Ohio, Philadelphia, USA,Tue Mar 11 2025
Kenny Pickett is moving back to the AFC North, but this time, he's joining the Browns. The Eagles have agreed to trade him to the Browns. The Eagles are getting quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a 2025 fifth-round pick in exchange for Pickett.
Pickett, who is 26 years old, was drafted 20th overall in 2022. He spent his first two seasons with the Steelers, starting 24 games. The Steelers had a record of 14-10 in those games. Pickett completed 62. 6 percent of his throws for 4, 474 yards with 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
Pickett was traded to the Eagles last offseason to be the backup to Jalen Hurts. He played in five games with one start for Philadelphia in 2024. He completed 60 percent of his throws for 291 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.
The Browns will have the option to pick up Pickett’s fifth-year option this spring, but it's unlikely they will do so.
Thompson-Robinson, who is 25 years old, was a fifth-round pick in 2023. He played in 15 games with five starts in his first two seasons. He has completed 52. 6 percent of his career passes for 880 yards with one touchdown and 10 interceptions. He’s also rushed for 187 yards.
The Browns are getting a quarterback who has experience starting games. The Eagles are getting a young quarterback with potential and a future draft pick. It's a win-win situation for both teams.
Tanner McKee, who won his first start in 2024, is likely to be Hurts’ backup in 2025. This trade allows the Eagles to have a fresh start with a new backup quarterback.
