Kid Entrepreneurs Open Shop in DeKalb
A market run by kids is coming to DeKalb. Shoppers can find Swedish candy, mini paint sets, and lemonade. Young sellers between ages 4 and 17 will run the tables. The event takes place at the Remake The World Veteran Center.
It happens on Sunday, November 8. Doors are open from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The public is welcome. A local restaurant named Chop It Up is hosting the fair. The kitchen is known for soul food with a healthy spin.
Brittany McGee owns the restaurant. She saw a social media post about a kids market in Florida. She did not see anything like that in her own town. That gave her the idea to start one here.
A previous fair happened in March at University Village apartments. This time, some of the sellers are new faces. McGee grew up in Bellwood. She wants children to see another way to make money. She also hopes neighbors will come out and support them.
McGee believes growing up is hard for many kids today. She wants them to know there are different paths. She hopes the fair shows them a new atmosphere. The community can help by showing up.
