Want to know how kids can learn about money? Head over to Baton Rouge's Knock Knock Children's Museum. They recently held their 'Earn and Learn' financial literacy weekend, where kids got hands-on experience with earning, saving, and spending cash. The best part? It was free! Kids worked in a pretend farmer's market, making wallets, cleaning pennies, and even baking donuts. After earning some money, they learned to separate wants from needs. Sounds fun, right? But the real goal was to teach them smart spending habits for life.
Volunteers from the Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants (LCPA) helped out. They believe in teaching future leaders early. "It's all about giving kids a head start with money skills," said Bridget Kaigler, chairwoman of LCPA. Kristian Beatty, deputy director of the museum, explained that community giving was also part of the day. Kids could donate their pretend produce back to the market. Pretty neat, huh?
