Kids, Screens and the Risks of Too Much Online Time

The number of children spending time on the internet in Sri Lanka is climbing fast. Because this growth is so quick, many youngsters may end up using the web more than they should. That can create a problem known as internet addiction, where the habit starts to hurt their schoolwork and relationships. Scientists have already looked at this issue in other countries, but there are not many studies from Sri Lanka itself.Without local research, it is hard to know how common the problem really is among Sri Lankan students. To solve this, researchers plan to use a tool that has been checked for the local culture and language. The idea is to find out how many children are at risk and what factors make it more likely for them to overuse the internet. Understanding these patterns will help teachers, parents and health workers create better ways to keep kids healthy while still letting them enjoy the internet safely.
