Kraft Heinz, the company known for products like Capri Sun and Oscar Meyer, has stopped selling their school-designed Lunchables meals. These meals were introduced at the start of the 2023-2024 school year and were supposed to be healthier with more protein and less fat and sodium. However, nutritionists and groups like the Center for Science in the Public Interest were not happy about this. They thought it might trick families into thinking that supermarket Lunchables were also healthy.
Things got more complicated in April when Consumer Reports found that the school Lunchables had more sodium and lead than store-bought ones and meals from other companies. Consumer Reports even asked the U. S. Department of Agriculture to ban these processed meal kits from schools.
Kraft Heinz said they stopped selling the school Lunchables because there wasn't much demand. They said it didn't affect their business much, as these sales were less than 1% of total Lunchables sales. The company plans to revisit this in the future.
