Paris, FranceThu Mar 19 2026
A fresh movie based on the Labubu series is officially in development, with well‑known director Paul King at the helm. King, who earned BAFTA praise for “Wonka” and “Paddington, ” will share writing duties with screenwriter Steven Levenson, whose credits include the Tony‑winning “Dear Evan Hansen. ” The project blends live action and CGI, aiming to bring the beloved Monsters world to a broader audience. It was first revealed during a Paris stop of the global Monsters exhibition celebrating a decade of stories.
Executive Producer Kasing Lung, originally from Hong Kong and raised in the Netherlands, brings a long history with Labubu. Lung created the Monsters books in 2015 and now guides the film’s creative direction. Other key producers include Michael Schaefer, known for “The Martian, ” and Wenxin She, who worked on “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” and “Wish Dragon. ”Sony Pictures will oversee production through Brittany Morrissey. The film remains in early stages, but the combined talent of King, Levenson, and Lung promises a fresh take on familiar characters. Fans can look forward to new adventures that expand the Monsters universe in both visual and narrative depth.
