Lake Erie Bracing for Wild Weather This Week

The National Weather Service has issued warnings about high winds, big waves, and even possible waterspouts for Lake Erie this week. In addition, a low water advisory is in place, indicating that the lake's water levels are lower than usual.

Wave Forecast

• October 22: Waves could reach 3 to 9 feet, with winds up to 34.5 miles per hour.
• October 23: Waves may decrease but could still reach up to 5 feet.
• October 24: Waves should calm slightly but could still be as high as 5 feet.
• October 25: Conditions should improve, with waves around 2 feet or less.

Additional Hazards

• Waterspouts: These are tornado-like formations over water, usually short-lived but potentially dangerous. They often form when cold air moves over warm water, creating a significant temperature difference.
• Gale Warning: Winds are expected to blow between 39 to 55 miles per hour for at least two hours. This warning is in effect through the night of October 22.
