Lane Kiffin keeps teasing Ole Miss from afar
Hoover, Alabama, USAFri May 01 2026
New Ole Miss football coach Pete Golding isn’t worried about Lane Kiffin’s social media shots at his old team. Kiffin, now at LSU, has a history of playful jabs at Ole Miss and its fans since leaving in November. But Golding sees it differently. “Lane is Lane, ” Golding said in late April. “He jokes around, we mess with each other, but there’s no real bite behind it. ”
Kiffin fired back online after Golding’s comments, tweeting, “Love you too @CoachGolding. Hope you beat (Georgia coach Kirby Smart) in golf also, ” showing the friendly rivalry continues. Kiffin’s latest dig came on April 25, when he posted a meme with the line, “Imagine how boring your life would be if you didn’t have me to annoy you, ” tagging Ole Miss and Tennessee—where he coached briefly in 2009.
Golding and Kiffin go way back. Golding worked under Kiffin for three years as his defensive coordinator before taking the top job at Ole Miss. Even then, Kiffin’s teasing wasn’t just public—it came through texts too. Yet Golding brushes it off, saying their relationship stays strong. “I wish him nothing but success, ” Golding said. “He gave me my first real coaching break. ”
Some Ole Miss fans don’t take Kiffin’s comments as lightly, but Golding keeps it all in perspective. The history between the two coaches matters more than the online back-and-forth. After all, Kiffin helped shape Golding’s career before their paths split.
