The goal is to show that Western efforts to isolate Moscow have failed. Putin believes BRICS can be an alternative to Western-led groups like the G7. The leaders will talk about creating a BRICS-led international payment system and addressing global conflicts. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is also attending, which has not pleased Ukraine. Putin met with key allies like Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi called for a peaceful end to the Ukraine conflict. India, like Turkey, wants to play a role in peace talks.
