Lebanon's Healthcare: A Hidden Crisis in Women's Health
LebanonWed Jul 02 2025
Lebanon has a healthcare system that has shown it can handle a lot. But there's a big problem that isn't getting enough attention: sexual and reproductive health and rights, or SRHR. This isn't just about one thing. It's a mix of political mess, old-fashioned views, and not enough money going to the right places.
People in Lebanon have promised to follow international rules. But when it comes to SRHR, those promises aren't being kept. Family planning services aren't good enough. Schools aren't teaching kids about sex and relationships. Mothers aren't getting the care they need. And some groups, like refugees, women, and young people, have a really hard time getting help.
There's a plan called "Vision 2030" that's supposed to make things better. But it doesn't really talk about SRHR. That leaves a lot of people without the care they need. When there's violence or people have to leave their homes, it makes things even worse.
Right now, many services are run by small groups or charities. But that's not a good long-term solution. The government needs to step up and make SRHR a big part of its health plans. It's not just about health. It's about fairness and giving everyone a chance to live a good life.
To make things better, the government, charities, and other countries need to work together. They need to fix the rules and make sure everyone has access to the care they need.
