Lenovo's New Handheld Gaming PCs: Portable Powerhouses with SteamOS Option
Wed Jan 08 2025
Lenovo has just unveiled two new handheld gaming PCs that are smaller and more portable than some of the big, bulky devices we've seen. Meet the Legion Go 2 and the Legion Go S, with the latter offering a model that runs on SteamOS.
The Legion Go 2 is still in the prototype phase but it's already making waves. It comes with an 8. 8-inch OLED display that supports variable refresh rates, detachable controllers, and powerful AMD Ryzen Z2 or Z2 Extreme processors. You can also upgrade it with up to 32GB of RAM and 2TB of SSD storage. However, Lenovo hasn't shared any details about when it will be released or how much it will cost.
Instead, Lenovo is focusing on the Legion Go S, which is set to launch soon. This device has a more integrated design with a 8-inch, 16:10 IPS LCD multi-touch screen, hall-effect thumbsticks, and dual stage triggers. It's powered by either an AMD Ryzen Z2 Go or Z1 Extreme processor and can be configured with up to 32GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD. The Legion Go S is a bit heavier than the Steam Deck but promises two to 2. 5 hours of battery life for demanding games.
The first Legion Go S model will start shipping this month for £649. 99/$729. 99. A cheaper variant will follow in May for £600/$599. 99. Both models run on Windows 11, but Lenovo is also working on a SteamOS version, making it the first authorized third-party device to use Valve's operating system. This SteamOS version will cost $499. 99 and is expected in May as well.
For those interested in the future, AMD's new Ryzen Z-series APUs, which will power the Legion Go 2, are already generating excitement.
