Letitia James, the New York Attorney General, is in the clear—for now. The Justice Department recently failed to get a grand jury to indict her. This comes just a short time after a judge threw out an earlier case against her. The original case was dismissed because of a legal hiccup in how the prosecutor was appointed. James has been a thorn in the side of former President Donald Trump. She sued him for fraud, which made her a target. The initial case against her was presented by Lindsey Halligan, a Trump appointee with no prosecutorial experience. A judge ruled Halligan's appointment was illegal, so the case was tossed. The Justice Department tried again, this time with different prosecutors. But the grand jury still didn't indict James. This doesn't mean she's completely off the hook. Prosecutors can try again in the future. One source warned against celebrating too soon. This isn't the only case causing drama. Prosecutors are also looking at former FBI Director James Comey. He was indicted on charges of lying to Congress and obstructing an investigation. The same judge who dismissed James' case also threw out Comey's. Trump's involvement in all this is clear. He pushed for these prosecutions, even naming Halligan as a U. S. attorney after his first pick resisted. Trump publicly pressured Attorney General Pam Bondi to move forward with the cases. He even praised Halligan, calling her “a really good lawyer. ” The Justice Department stays quiet on grand jury matters. But one thing is sure: this story isn't over yet. The legal battles continue, and James, Comey, and others remain in the spotlight.
