Lewis Hamilton's First Drive as a Ferrari Pilot

Fiorano, Maranello, ItalyWed Jan 22 2025
It’s been close to a year since Formula One sensation Lewis Hamilton shocked the world by leaving Mercedes for Ferrari. This week, he finally got behind the wheel of his new ride. On a misty morning in Italy, at the historic Fiorano track, Hamilton took his new Ferrari for a spin. The 40-year-old seven-time champion started his day at the old house turned office of Ferrari’s legendary founder, Enzo Ferrari. With a bright yellow helmet, a nod to his early days, Hamilton eased into the SF-23, the car driven by his teammates Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz last season. He didn’t waste time. By 9:20 am, Hamilton was out on the track, waving to the excited crowd. Despite light rain, he managed several runs, each about 10 laps, and practiced some starts. In total, he clocked around 30 laps, a solid start for someone new to the team. Later, he mingled with the fans, receiving a warm welcome from the passionate Tifosi. Up next: another test at Barcelona, a livery presentation in London, and eventually, the season opener in Australia. Busy times ahead for Hamilton and his new team.
