Lisa Marie Presley's New Book Reveals Unique Way She Honored Her Late Son
Malibu, USAWed Oct 09 2024
Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis Presley, has revealed an intimate detail about how she dealt with the loss of her son, Benjamin Keough. In her new memoir, she shares that after Benjamin's death in 2020, she kept his body at home for two months. This was a period where she was struggling to decide where to bury him.
The book, titled "From Here to the Great Unknown," was completed by her daughter, Riley Keough, after her passing. Lisa Marie wrote that there were no laws in California requiring immediate burial, so she was able to have her son at home. She found a supportive funeral home owner who agreed to bring Benjamin's body to her house.
As a tribute to Benjamin, Lisa Marie and Riley got matching tattoos. They asked a tattoo artist to come and look at Benjamin's body to ensure the design and placement matched his tattoos perfectly. Riley recalled this moment as one of the most unusual experiences of her life.
Eventually, they felt Benjamin wanted to be laid to rest. His funeral was held in Malibu with a ceremony led by Deepak Chopra. He was buried at Graceland, alongside his grandfather. Lisa Marie was later buried next to him.
Riley shared that her mother's heart stayed broken after Benjamin's death. She believes that while the official cause of death was a small bowel obstruction, her mother's heartbreak was the root cause.
The book offers a unique insight into how Lisa Marie coped with her grief and honored her son's memory.
