Little Rock's Vibrant Arts Scene: A Closer Look

Little Rock is buzzing with cultural events this week. The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra is putting on a show called "Modern Muses. " It's part of their 2025-26 River Rhapsodies series. The concert features a mix of classical and modern pieces. Violinists, pianists, and other musicians will perform works by Debussy, Still, Ginastera, and Glass. The orchestra's music director, Geoffrey Robson, is also hosting a free lecture. He'll share insights about the upcoming "Carmina Burana" performance. This is a great chance to learn more about the music and the orchestra. Over at the Argenta Contemporary Theatre, there's a play called "Always . . . Patsy Cline. " It's based on the true story of Patsy Cline and her fan, Louise Seger. The play explores their friendship and Cline's tragic life. Tickets are affordable, and there are plenty of showtimes to choose from.The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History is screening a documentary called "Black Patriots: Buffalo Soldiers. " It's about the first all-Black peacetime regiments. The screening is free, and it includes popcorn and soft drinks. There are also some great author events happening. ReShonda Tate will discuss her new novel, "With Love from Harlem. " Lauren Groff, a bestselling author, will read from her work at Hendrix College. And there's a talk about professional wrestling with journalist Alison Lyn Miller. Poets and authors Donika Kelly and Melissa Febos are also in town. They'll be holding a joint reading and book signing at the University of Central Arkansas. It's a great opportunity to hear from these talented writers.
