A Big Studio Changes Hands in Hollywood
Studio City, USAWed Apr 22 2026
Netflix is close to adding a historic movie lot to its empire. The Radford Studio Center, a 55-acre land in Los Angeles, might soon belong to the streaming service. This place isn’t just any studio—it’s where many famous TV shows were made over the years. Think of classics like “Leave It to Beaver” or “Gilligan’s Island. ” Even later hits like “Will & Grace” were filmed there.
The studio’s past owners had big financial trouble. Hackman Capital Partners borrowed over a billion dollars to buy it in 2021 but couldn’t pay it back. Now, the bank is selling the lot for a much lower price, somewhere between $330 million and $400 million. That’s way less than the $1. 85 billion paid just three years ago.
This deal isn’t just about money—it’s about history. Built in 1928 by Mack Sennett, a silent film legend, the studio earned the nickname “Hit City” in the mid-1900s. Decades of TV magic happened there. Now, Netflix wants to make its mark by owning this piece of Hollywood.
