The incident began around 9:15 p. m. on a Wednesday when deputies responded to a call about disorderly conduct. Upon arrival, they found Jose Figueroa unconscious outside. Witnesses later revealed that 51-year-old Roberto Hernandez Arreola was responsible for the brutal attack. The details of the incident are disturbing. Arreola, driven by intense anger, used a baseball bat to strike Figueroa multiple times in the head. The force of the blows was so severe that Figueroa's skull was completely crushed. Arreola was quickly arrested and taken into custody. Figueroa was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately did not survive his injuries. Arreola now faces murder charges and is being held without bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for the following Thursday. In August, another brutal crime shook North Carolina. Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee, was murdered in Charlotte. Zarutska suffered multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the East/West Boulevard light rail station. The suspect, 34-year-old Decarlos Brown Jr. , was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. The Justice Department later charged Brown with an additional count of committing an act causing death on a mass transportation system.
